LOCAL ANIMATION ENCODER
Turn a GIF into video.
Make every change explicit.
Encode one animated GIF as a silent H.264 MP4 in this browser. Choose a background, quality, and timing policy, then play the measured result before download.
Choose a GIFWORKING CONVERTER
Encode the animation—not the filename.
The tool decodes GIF frames and delays, pads odd dimensions, composites a chosen background, then creates a fast-start MP4.

Measured size, playback, and download appear here.
The media engine loads only after you start.
animation.mp4
Choose a GIF to begin.
The GIF and MP4 stay in this tab. ToolMerit does not receive either file.
The preview loops because its video player has loop enabled. The downloaded MP4 contains one animation cycle and no portable “loop forever” instruction; enable looping in the destination player, page, or social platform.
WHAT CHANGES
Four decisions hidden by one “convert” button.
Timing
Preserve each GIF frame delay for faithful pacing. Normalize only when a destination needs a constant 15 or 30 fps stream.
Transparency
H.264 MP4 has no transparent layer in this workflow. Pick the background the animation will actually sit on.
Dimensions
Odd width or height is padded by at most one pixel because widely compatible yuv420p H.264 expects even dimensions.
Quality
CRF controls H.264 quality, not a target file size. Lower is higher quality and commonly larger.
GIF OR MP4?
Choose the delivery behavior, not the extension.
MP4 often compresses photographic motion efficiently, but the surrounding product experience still matters.
GIF TO MP4 ANSWERS
Before you replace the source.
Will MP4 always be smaller than GIF?+
No. H.264 is often efficient for motion, but duration, dimensions, frame changes, CRF, and container overhead determine the measured result. Compare the two numbers shown by the tool.
Does the MP4 loop forever?+
No portable GIF loop instruction is copied into the MP4. The preview loops at the player level. Set loop behavior in HTML, your editor, social platform, or playback app.
What happens to transparent pixels?+
They are composited onto the background you choose. Keep the original GIF when alpha transparency is required, or choose another alpha-capable video workflow.
Why can timing look different at 15 fps?+
Normalizing to a constant frame rate can duplicate or drop frames to fit that clock. Use “Preserve GIF delays” first when pacing matters.
Is audio added?+
No. GIF contains no audio, and this MP4 is explicitly silent.
Is my GIF uploaded?+
No. A self-hosted FFmpeg WebAssembly engine decodes and encodes inside this browser tab.
