LOCAL WAV → MP3 DELIVERY
Keep the WAV master.
Make the MP3 handoff.
Turn one PCM or readable WAV into a smaller, widely playable MP3. Choose bitrate, channels, and sample rate; then compare the measured result before download.

Choose by destination, then verify.
WAV often stores uncompressed PCM. MP3 discards information to save space. A 320 kbps output can be useful, but it is not a lossless archive.

Measure and listen
Playback, measured size, and download appear here.
The encoder loads only after you start.
Choose a WAV to begin.
The WAV, decoded samples, and MP3 stay in this tab. ToolMerit does not receive the audio.
Keep the original WAV or project file. Converting MP3 back to WAV later expands the file but cannot restore information discarded by MP3 encoding.
DELIVERY RECIPES
Bitrate follows the listener and the limit.
These are starting points, not quality guarantees. Listen to the most demanding passage.
Speech in mono
Interviews, voice notes, lectures, and transcription handoffs where small size matters.
CHECK SIBILANCECompact mixed audio
General sharing when music and ambience are present but the upload cap is tight.
CHECK HIGH FREQUENCIESGeneral music delivery
A practical first test for drafts, review copies, and ordinary listening.
START HEREFewer size savings
Use when compatible MP3 delivery matters more than minimum bytes. Still lossy.
KEEP THE WAVWHAT CHANGES
Three knobs, three different effects.
Controls the MP3 data budget
For a constant-rate encode, duration × bitrate gives a useful output-size estimate. More bits can preserve more detail but make a larger delivery file.
Choose mono only when stereo is unnecessary
Mono can help spoken content at low bitrates. Do not collapse separate speakers, spatial cues, stereo music, or intentional ambience without listening.
Do not increase source information
Keeping the source rate avoids needless resampling. A lower rate may suit speech; a higher number cannot create frequencies the source never captured.
20-SECOND CHECK
Compare the difficult moment.
Use headphones and a section with cymbals, consonants, room tone, applause, or dense instrumentation.
- 01Play the WAV and MP3 at the same device volume.
- 02Listen for watery highs, smeared attacks, pumping, or narrowed ambience.
- 03Raise bitrate if the defect matters; choose mono only if the content permits it.
- 04Verify measured bytes and duration before download.
WAV TO MP3 ANSWERS
Before you discard the source.
Does WAV to MP3 reduce quality?+
Yes. MP3 is a lossy codec, so encoding discards information to reduce size. The audible effect depends on the source, rate, encoder, and listener. Keep the WAV master.
Why is the MP3 much smaller?+
PCM WAV commonly stores each audio sample directly, while MP3 models and compresses the signal at a selected data rate. Duration and bitrate therefore make MP3 size relatively predictable.
Should I choose 320 kbps?+
Choose it when MP3 compatibility matters and size is secondary. It is still lossy and does not replace an archive WAV. For ordinary review copies, test 192 kbps first.
Will metadata move from WAV to MP3?+
This focused converter creates the audio delivery file and does not promise Broadcast Wave chunks, markers, artwork, or uncommon metadata. Preserve the source and add required ID3 tags in a dedicated editor.
Is the WAV uploaded?+
No. The self-hosted FFmpeg WebAssembly engine reads and converts it inside this browser tab.
