AI MUSIC GENERATION TOOLS 2026 · EVIDENCE REFRESHED SEPTEMBER 8

Best AI music generation tools for 2026: six workflows compared.

Choose by the track you need to deliver: vocals, editable notes, background audio or sound design. Compare the actual export route and plan conditions before paying for generations you cannot use.

THE MUSIC BRIEFmood · structure
voice · destination
GENERATEEDITCHECK RIGHTSEXPORT
Conceptual workflow, not a software screenshot or listening-test result. A generated track still needs a usable export and a destination-specific rights check.
WHERE TO START

For a vocal song, start by comparing Suno’s generation and download allowances. For editable notes, inspect AIVA’s MIDI route. For a cue fitted to picture, examine Firefly’s timing controls. SOUNDRAW suits background arrangements, and Stable Audio’s current workflow adds sectional editing and experimental stems. Udio is included only as an in-platform option while downloads remain disabled. These are editorial starting points, not sound-quality rankings.

A LOCAL WORKFLOW FILTER

Match the track, export and destination.

The filter removes routes that do not meet the selected capabilities, then uses a stated editorial order for the task. It does not grant permission or predict audio quality.

How the order is chosen

Background: Firefly for timing, SOUNDRAW for arrangement, Stable Audio for audio variation, then Suno and AIVA for adjacent song/score workflows. Songs: Suno, then Udio if no file is needed. Scores: AIVA. Textures: Stable Audio, then SOUNDRAW. Exploration: Udio, Stable Audio, Suno, AIVA. Output requirements can remove any route. This is an editorial workflow order, not a measured score.

The complete comparison and all six decision notes below work without JavaScript. For a manual choice: use Suno for vocal songs, AIVA for MIDI, Firefly for video-fit timing, or inspect the other routes and their limits.

CURRENT DOCUMENTED ROUTES

SSuno

Complete songs with vocals

Pro: US$8/month billed annually; Premier: US$24/month billed annuallySongs with lyrics and vocals; paid stem separation. Premier adds the Studio workflow with MIDI. Pro includes 2,500 monthly generation credits but only 20 song downloads; Premier includes 60 downloads. The download caps took effect September 3, 2026. Credits and downloads are separate allowances. Commercial permission needs a track-specific check; it is not a copyright guarantee.Plans ↗Download rules ↗Paid rights ↗
UUdio

In-platform song ideas, without downloadable delivery

Subscription pricing is not quoted here: the export restriction is the decisive limitThe current transition notice lists 2,400 monthly Standard credits and 6,000 Pro credits. It explicitly disables audio, video and stem downloads.Do not choose this route for a downloadable deliverable. Its place in this comparison is an in-platform experiment, not a release-ready file workflow.Current transition notice ↗
SStable Audio

Audio textures, variation and sectional editing

Solo US$12/month (660 credits); Session US$30/month (1,800 credits)The current 3.0 site describes audio-to-audio, inpainting, experimental stem generation/export, a DAW plugin and durations from one second to six minutes. These are the current Solo/Session plans, not the legacy Free/Creator tiers. Stem export is experimental. Credit cost varies with the work; do not equate a credit with a finished track.Current plans ↗Current capabilities ↗
AAIVA

Editable composition and MIDI

Standard €11/month; Pro €33/month, billed annually, plus VATAudio or MIDI influences and editable compositions. Free includes three monthly MP3/MIDI downloads; Standard includes 15; Pro includes 300 and high-quality WAV export.Free is non-commercial with attribution. Standard limits monetization to YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and Instagram. AIVA describes Pro as transferring copyright; legal protection still depends on the work and jurisdiction.Capabilities and individual plans ↗

AAdobe Firefly Generate Music

Instrumental music timed to video

Firefly Standard: US$9.99/month, monthly billing; audio uses generative creditsPrompt- or video-guided instrumental music with energy, tempo and duration controls. Adobe markets it for commercial use; that is not a promise that every upload, client use or platform decision is cleared.Music workflow and formats ↗US plans ↗

BEFORE A TRACK LEAVES THE PLATFORM

Check the specific track, not just the subscription.

Permission to use music commercially, copyright protection, distributor acceptance and permission to upload source material are different questions.

  1. 01

Suno: record generation and download dates

The September 3 paid-rights help page describes songs downloaded while subscribed. The pricing page still describes new songs made, while the upgrade help says older free songs do not automatically gain retroactive commercial permission. Do not resolve that difference by assuming every old track is cleared: retain the track history and ask Suno about the specific work when the terms are unclear.

Read the upgrade and older-track guidance ↗
  2. 02

SOUNDRAW: background use is not unchanged distribution

An Artist release needs a clearly modified beat. The license page prohibits Content ID registration and asks users to contact SOUNDRAW for content they do not own or certain sync uses. Unmodified meditation, lo-fi and relaxation content has an active-subscription condition.

Check the use-specific license boundaries ↗
  3. 03

AIVA: match the destination to the plan

Standard names four monetization platforms; it is not blanket coverage for every podcast or client job. Pro has a broader contractual rights position, but no vendor can guarantee statutory copyright protection for every generated output.

  4. 04

Every route: check inputs and the final destination

Use only source recordings, lyrics and voices you are authorized to process. Keep the applicable terms, plan, track dates and edits. Check client and platform requirements, then listen to the exported file for artifacts and unintended resemblance before releasing it.

CHECK THE HANDOFF

What to verify in each candidate.

Use these proposed checks before a project depends on the tool. They are instructions you can follow, not tests we claim to have performed or permission approvals.

01VERIFY BEFORE COMMITTING

Complete songs with vocals

Suno

Open the account’s generation-credit and download counters separately. For a track you are entitled to export, download the required mix or stems and import the files into your editor.

Open the official evidence ↗
02VERIFY BEFORE COMMITTING

In-platform song ideas, without downloadable delivery

Udio

Before promising a file to a client or editor, reopen the official transition notice and check whether downloads have actually returned. Do not count an in-platform playback link as an audio file.

Open the official evidence ↗
03VERIFY BEFORE COMMITTING

Audio textures, variation and sectional editing

Stable Audio

Use a short original audio fixture for audio-to-audio or inpainting. Export the result; if the job requires experimental stems, import the individual files and check separation and alignment.

Open the official evidence ↗
04VERIFY BEFORE COMMITTING

Editable composition and MIDI

AIVA

Export a short MIDI composition, open it with instruments in your DAW, then change two notes and one instrument. Use the audio export separately when you need a ready-to-play recording.

05VERIFY BEFORE COMMITTING

Editable background arrangements and beats

SOUNDRAW

Choose one arrangement, change a section’s energy or length, then inspect the export formats available in your actual tier. For an Artist release, document the musical changes to the downloaded beat.

06VERIFY BEFORE COMMITTING

Instrumental music timed to video

Adobe Firefly Generate Music

Generate a short instrumental cue for a video you own or may process. Export the WAV, place it against the picture and narration, and inspect the beginning, ending and actual timeline length.

A TEST YOU CAN ACTUALLY RUN

Compare two routes with one small deliverable.

These are proposed trials, not results we obtained from the vendors.

VOICEOVER BACKGROUND

A 30-second cue under speech

Use the same original narration and brief: restrained instrumental texture, no vocals, clear ending. Generate two candidates, export each, place it under the narration and inspect duration, abrupt endings and masked speech.

Keep the cue that survives the actual video mix—not the one that sounds loudest alone.
EDITABLE COMPOSITION

An eight-bar MIDI arrangement

Request a simple instrumental phrase. Export MIDI, open it in your DAW, change an instrument and edit two notes. Verify that you received note data rather than expecting isolated audio tracks.

Success means the required edit is possible in the delivered format.
VOCAL SONG

A verse and chorus with original lyrics

Use a short lyric you own. Check pronunciation, verse/chorus distinction and the downloaded mix. If you need stems, import them into your editor and verify that the separation is usable before buying a larger plan.

Record generation credits, downloads consumed, edits and the rights check separately.

CHOOSING WITHOUT FALSE CERTAINTY

Common questions about the shortlist.

Which is the best AI music generator?+

There is no tested overall winner on this page. Use the task and output comparison: vocal song, MIDI composition, video cue or audio texture. Then test the short deliverable above and verify the actual plan before committing.

Why can the filter return no candidates?+

It requires every selected capability to be documented in this comparison. A vocal song with numeric duration control, for example, has no established single-tool route here. Keep the essential requirement and plan a separate edit, or research another candidate. No result does not mean no such product exists anywhere.

Are generations, downloads, stems and MIDI the same allowance?+

No. Generation credits pay for attempts; downloads deliver files. Stems are separate audio parts; MIDI is note and performance data that needs an instrument. A plan can allow many attempts while limiting downloads or restricting editable formats.

CONTINUE THE ACTUAL AUDIO WORK

Choose the generator.
Verify the handoff.

For cleanup, narration or podcast editing rather than music generation, use the AI audio workflow comparison. Before preparing a smaller audio file for delivery, review the audio compressor’s format and quality limits.
