GOOGLE ANALYTICS ALTERNATIVES · AUGUST 2026
Six alternatives cover three very different jobs: simple website reporting, broad marketing analytics, and product behavior. Use the replacement map before migrating tags or importing history.
Map the replacement →Plausible is the balanced simple-web choice; Fathom is attractive for many sites; Simple Analytics and Umami cover minimal or budget-conscious routes. Matomo fits teams that want a broad GA-style replacement and control over hosting. PostHog is the stronger move when the real requirement is product behavior, replay, flags, and experiments.
INTERACTIVE REPLACEMENT MAP
Pick the actual reporting job and operating constraints. The shortlist intentionally excludes products that cannot meet a required deployment or analysis mode.
SIX CREDIBLE ALTERNATIVES
Price references and public capabilities were verified from official sources. “Privacy-friendly” vendor language does not remove your responsibility to assess configuration, consent, retention, and law.

Check the official plan ↗THE REPORT INVENTORY
Before choosing an alternative to Google Analytics, name the question, event, segment, reporting rhythm, owner, and decision for every dashboard you intend to preserve.
A 30-DAY PARALLEL MIGRATION
Different products define visitors, sessions, bots, referrers, locations, and attribution differently. Exact numerical parity is neither realistic nor the goal.
Export GA4 reports and events. Mark who uses each report and what action follows. Remove decorative metrics.
Create a versioned event dictionary, add the new script, record consent behavior, and test production domains and payments.
Compare trends and key conversions against source systems. Explain expected gaps in a written variance log.
Train report owners, set access and retention, preserve exports, remove unused tags, and monitor the first recurring report.
If a content team only acts on traffic, campaigns, goals, and revenue, a focused dashboard can be more operationally complete than hundreds of unused reports.
Infrastructure, backups, upgrades, security response, database growth, monitoring, and staff time remain real costs.
Assess the exact data flow, configuration, jurisdiction, integrations, and other scripts on the site. Get qualified advice when required.
Identity, feature events, replays, experiments, flags, and warehouse data create deeper product insight—and a larger governance surface.

ToolMerit reviewed official pricing, product, deployment, retention, import, event, funnel, privacy, and export information. We did not run a controlled traffic-counting study across all six tools. No vendor paid for placement.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS ALTERNATIVES FAQ
Plausible is a balanced simple web-analytics choice. Fathom works well across many sites. Matomo provides a broader marketing-analytics replacement and self-hosting. PostHog fits product analytics. The best option depends on the reports and decisions that must survive.
Umami offers a free Cloud Hobby plan and can be self-hosted. Simple Analytics has a limited free hobby tier. Matomo Community is free to self-host. PostHog has large free usage allowances. Hosting and staff time can still create costs.
Plausible and Matomo document Google Analytics import paths. Confirm the supported scope and preserve independent exports because historical definitions may not map perfectly into the new model.
Yes, for a bounded validation period. Compare trends, conversions, campaigns, and business-system totals; document definitional differences rather than expecting identical visitor or session counts.
A successful GA4 replacement is not the tool with the most screens. It is the system the team can explain, maintain, and use to make a better decision.
