MOV to WAV converter with audio range and PCM controls.

Extract the first audio track from a QuickTime movie, choose the WAV depth, channel layout, sample rate, and optional time range, then download an editing-ready audio file. Your MOV is processed on this device—not uploaded to ToolMerit.

MOV TO WAV CONVERTER

Extract WAV audio from a MOV file.

MOV describes a container. Its audio may use AAC, PCM, ALAC, or another codec. This tool uses a self-hosted FFmpeg WebAssembly engine to demux the first audio stream and encode it as WAV.

Choose a MOV file to begin.

Local by design. The selected MOV and generated WAV stay in this tab. About 31 MB of WebAssembly is loaded from ToolMerit only after you click Convert.

QUICK DECISION

Choose 16-bit for playback, transcription, or broad handoff. Choose 24-bit when the WAV will continue through editing or mixing. Choose 32-bit float only when the next tool explicitly benefits from it.

CONTAINER ≠ AUDIO FORMAT

The MOV is the box.
The WAV is the sound file.

A QuickTime movie can hold video, audio, captions, and metadata in separate tracks. Conversion selects the first audio track, discards the video track from the output, decodes the source audio, and writes uncompressed PCM samples into a WAV container.

OUTPUT SETTINGS

Spend file size where it changes the work.

WAV is usually uncompressed, so each setting changes the amount of audio data written every second. Higher numbers do not restore detail missing from the MOV.

Practical for transcription, review copies, presentations, and broad software compatibility.

WHY THE WAV GETS LARGE

Uncompressed audio has predictable weight.

SAMPLE RATE×CHANNELS×BYTES PER SAMPLE×DURATION≈ WAV SIZE

Example: five minutes of 48 kHz stereo audio at 16-bit depth is about 55 MB. The same duration at 24-bit is about 82 MB. Container headers add only a small amount; actual results can vary slightly.

GOOD REASONS TO EXTRACT WAV

Move audio into an audio-first workflow.

The right output depends on what happens next—not on the MOV extension alone.

01

Edit dialogue

Pull interviews, voiceovers, or on-camera speech into an audio editor without carrying the video track.

Start with 24-bit, source rate.
02

Prepare transcription

Create a broadly readable speech file, then trim silence or irrelevant sections before sending it onward.

16-bit mono is usually sufficient.
03

Archive a sound track

Store an uncompressed derivative when future access matters more than a compact transfer file.

Preserve source rate and channels.
04

Hand off to another app

Use WAV when the receiving editor, sampler, presentation tool, or analysis workflow expects PCM audio.

Check its channel and depth limits first.

BROWSER CONVERSION BOUNDARY

Private and convenient,
not a desktop render farm.

FFmpeg.wasm moves media work into your browser, but its own documentation notes that WebAssembly conversion is slower than native FFmpeg. This page deliberately limits one file to 200 MB and provides a cancel control.

STAYS LOCAL

Your media bytes

The MOV is copied into an in-memory filesystem inside the worker. The WAV comes back to this page as a local browser object.

LOADS FROM TOOLMERIT

The conversion engine

The wrapper and self-hosted WebAssembly core are site assets. No conversion file is sent with that request.

USES DEVICE RESOURCES

Memory, CPU, and time

Long or high-resolution movies can consume substantial memory even though only their audio is exported.

WHEN CONVERSION STOPS

Read the failure as a format clue.

No audio track found

The MOV may be silent, contain only video, or store audio in a track the bundled core cannot read. Confirm that the original plays with sound.

The engine will not load

Check the network connection for the first run, disable script-blocking for this page, and use a current desktop browser.

The tab runs out of memory

Trim or compress the MOV before conversion, close memory-heavy tabs, or use native FFmpeg for large production files.

The WAV is unexpectedly large

Choose 16-bit, mono, a shorter time range, or a compressed format in another tool if uncompressed WAV is not required.

The output sounds mono

If Mono was selected, both channels were mixed down. Reset Channels to Keep source channels and convert again.

The browser cannot preview it

Download the completed WAV and open it in the destination audio editor. Conversion success and browser playback support are separate checks.

BEFORE YOU CONVERT

Useful answers,
without format folklore.

Does changing MOV to WAV keep the video?+

No. WAV is an audio format. This converter selects the first audio stream and intentionally excludes video from the output.

Does the MOV upload to ToolMerit?+

No. The source is read into the browser worker’s temporary memory. ToolMerit serves the conversion code, but it does not receive or store the MOV or WAV.

Which sample rate should I choose?+

Keep the source rate when the next workflow does not specify one. Choose 48 kHz for many video workflows or 44.1 kHz when the destination specifically requests it. Resampling does not create new source detail.

Can I convert a MOV with no sound?+

No useful WAV can be created without an audio track. The tool returns an error instead of generating a misleading empty file.

Why is the first conversion slower to start?+

The page lazy-loads a roughly 31 MB FFmpeg WebAssembly core only when conversion begins. Later runs in the same tab reuse that loaded engine.

What are the practical limits?+

One MOV at a time, up to 200 MB, with the first readable audio track used. Very long files, unusual codecs, damaged containers, or low-memory devices may require a desktop converter.
